We have been together since 2017 but our hearts and imaginations had been captivated by Jesus long before then. During college, Blake developed a deep love and burden for the local church that eventually progressed into a vision and passion for church planting and multiplication. While dating, God aligned our hearts toward this joint calling to see the Kingdom of Heaven further established and expanded in our city.
Over the years, we would drive down the streets of Atlanta dreaming about the mission and vision of Jesus for our lives and city. In 2020 Blake entered a church planting residency at an incredible church in northwest Atlanta where we were given the necessary tools and experiences to begin actively pursuing the calling God had placed on our lives.
After over 3 years on staff developing our vision for church planting as well as leading and pastoring college students and young adults, we are excited to be back in Atlanta to start Kingdom City Church. We believe with all our hearts that Jesus is alive and enthroned over all creation, determined to push back darkness and set people free, and He will do that here (in our city) and now (in these days) as we say "yes" to Him and His will for our lives.
Today, we (along with our son) drive along the same streets dreaming about the same mission and vision we've had all these years: to see God's will done and His Kingdom come in Atlanta as it is in Heaven. Will you join us?
While the Kingdom was inaugurated on earth by and through the person and work of Jesus Christ, it continues to grow and expand today by His Spirit and through His people, the Church. We believe wherever the Kingdom is established, darkness is dispelled, grace is unleashed, and people are set free to flourish under the loving rule and reign of our redeeming King. We don't expand this Kingdom through violence, hostility, and the means of man but the way Jesus exemplified - through loving sacrifice and selfless service.
But why the city? Well, studies show that cities in particular are where the most people are plagued by the most brokenness. As followers of Jesus, we are meant to 1) purposefully portray the Kingdom of Heaven on earth in and through our lives and community and 2) passionately pursue the lost and broken people and places of the world with the hope and healing of the gospel. But our mission is temporary. Jesus Himself will one day return and fully consummate His Kingdom, bringing everyone and everything under His authority and making all things new once and for all. The name "Kingdom City Church" was birthed out of this vision.
The Kingdom Come. The People Whole. The City New.
In Acts (the detailed record of the birth of the Church and the work of the Apostles), we are told that the earthly life and ministry of Jesus was only the beginning (Acts 1:1). By His Spirit and through His people, Jesus is continuing today was He initiated 2,000 years ago. The question for those of us who follow Him is this: If we are called to continue what He did, what did He do? The answer is simple: He proclaimed a message and practiced a way of life. Jesus summed it all up as "The Kingdom of Heaven" (Matthew 4:17).
Through Jesus, God and His Kingdom had come near. It had invaded the earth and people and history were forever changed as a result. This is the message that Jesus preached and God authenticated Jesus' message through the works He did and the way He did them. In His life and ministry, Jesus was exercising the authority of God on earth and giving people a window into the Kingdom of Heaven. However, it was His sacrificial death and bodily resurrection that released His Spirit and made the power and presence of Heaven on earth a tangible reality for those who are willing to take hold of it by faith in Him, including you and me. As we proclaim the message of Jesus and practice His way of life, we are participating as ambassadors of Jesus and agents of His Kingdom on earth.
All that Jesus did, He did for the whole world. Jesus Himself said, “God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him” (John 3:17). While Jesus came for the whole world, God has called us to continue the ministry of Jesus in a particular place, at a particular time, among a particular people. We are doing it here, in Atlanta, for the good of the city—our city—and the 6.2 million people who call it home.
